Top 5 Stories Of The Day | Police Launch Enforcement of Third-Party Insurance for all Vehicles

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will enforce third-party insurance nationwide on February 1. This decision is in line with the directive from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.

The IGP stated that this initiative aims to improve road safety and ensure that all vehicle owners comply with mandatory insurance regulations, thereby protecting themselves and others on the road.

“The Nigeria Police Force warns vehicle owners and operators against non-compliance with this important regulation. Failure to have valid third-party insurance will lead to strict enforcement actions, including fines and penalties stipulated by relevant laws,” the NPF cautioned.

Nigerians in the US hide away from Trump’s deportation laws

Illegal Nigerian immigrants in the United States of America have revealed that they have restricted their movements to public places to avoid being arrested or deported.

The news comes as the undocumented immigrants expressed optimism that they would be protected against deportation by the many lawsuits filed against Trump over his harsh immigration policies.

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, is allegedly set to deport 3,690 illegal Nigerian immigrants as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released a report stating that it would be deporting about 1,445,549 illegal immigrants in the US.

PSC to retire police officers above 60 years or with 35 years of experience in the service

The Police Service Commission has announced the immediate retirement of all senior police officers who have served for over 35 years or are over 60.

This decision comes in response to the controversy surrounding the tenure extension of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun upon reaching his 60th birthday.

According to a statement from Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, the Commission has revised its previous position established during the 24th plenary meeting in September 2017, which permitted police entrants to consider their enlistment date rather than their initial appointment date.

“The Police Service Commission concluded its first extraordinary meeting with the approval for the immediate retirement of senior Police Officers who have either exceeded 35 years of service or are older than 60,” stated Ani.

Nigerian senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko has departed from his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hinting at the party’s unresolved issues causing more harm than good.

The issues existing in the opposition political party, according to Nwoko, made it difficult for him to deliver on his campaign promises to his senatorial district.

“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfil my obligations to my people. While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North,’’ he penned.
