SERAP sues Tinubu over unlawful fuel price and alleged corruption in NNPCL
The Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP) has dragged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to court after accusing him of unlawful fuel prices and alleged corruption in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
SERAP requests that a court order could direct Tinubu to instruct the NNPCL to reverse the petrol hike and investigate its corruption practices.
The activist group claimed that the increase in petrol price had done a lot of irreparable damage to Nigerians, who have had to adapt to the economy to the detriment of their dwindling finances.
Dangote calls out misleading information about the sale of fuel to NNPCL
After Olufemi Soneye, the chief spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced that Dangote had sold fuel to NNPC at the price of ₦898/litre, Dangote Group issued a press statement to refute the misleading information.
According to the statement issued by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the announcement of NNPCL purchasing fuel at ₦898/litre was “misleading and mischievous” and targeted at undermining the achievement of Dangote Refinery.
Though the official price at which Dangote Refinery sold the fuel to NNPCL is yet to be revealed, Mr Chiejina informed the public that “it should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing. With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature.”
Emirates Airlines reveals plans for comeback after two-year hiatus
Emirates Airlines has announced that it would be making a comeback to Nigerian airports after suspending its activities two years ago due to trapped funds.
Emirates Airlines has stated that it would be relaunching its services in Nigeria, and to regain its position in the Nigerian airline market, it has begun formulating several strategies, including engaging its stakeholders in the industry to reveal its new products and services.
The airline is said to resume its services in and out of Lagos from October 1, 2024, promising complete services like gourmet and regionally-inspired dining, entertainment services, and more.
Telecom providers begin to disconnect phone numbers not linked to NIN
Telecommunication providers in Nigeria are preparing to disconnect the phone numbers of Nigerian users who have refused to link their lines to their National Identification Numbers (NIN) since its last deadline was September 2024.
The NCC warned in a statement that it does not expect any unregistered SIM card to remain active after September 15; this information is after constantly warning Nigerians to link their numbers to their NIN or face disconnection.
On July 28 and 29, millions of Nigerians complained about their sim cards being barred before being reversed, which caused a commotion in the country as the EndBadGovernance protest was a few days away.
Donald Trump survives yet another assassination attempt
Former President and current Presidential candidate of the United States of America has once again survived an assassination attempt on his life.
There were reports of gunshots fired close to Trump’s location in Palm Beach Golf Club, Florida.
The report comes two months after the first attempt on his life happened in Pennsylvania in July, where the bullet had grazed his ear.
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumours start spiralling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and well. Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender! I will always love you for supporting me,” Trump declared.
