The first presidential debate for the forthcoming United State Presidential elections held a few minutes ago.
The event which was moderated by Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News held at the Hofstra University campus.
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump locked horns.
Both candidates spoke on issues varying from employment, tax, defence, racism, the economy, ISIS and nuclear weapons.
Speaking on trade deals both candidates differed on their approach. Donald Trump plans to reduce taxes from 35 per cent to 15 per cent, while Hillary Clinton wants increment in taxes.
Trump, said, “We’ve to stop our jobs from being stolen from us, we’ve to stop our companies from fleeing from the U.S.”
Hillary Clinton said, “My plan will gain us 10 million jobs and yours Donald Trump is going to lose us 3.5 million jobs.
“Slashing taxes on the wealthy hasn’t worked and a lot of really smart wealthy people know that.”
Donald Trump during the debate contradicted himself on many occasions. A case in question was his earlier stance of climate change.
On November 6, 2012, Trump tweeted, “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”
Trump however denied making such claim on Wednesday during the debate.
When asked about the release of his tax returns, Trump said he would make that available “when she [Hillary Clinton] releases her 33,000 emails that have been deleted”.
Reacting to Trump’s tax return, Clinton said, “Why doesn’t he want to release his tax returns? Maybe he’s not as rich as he pretends to be.”
Donald Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton almost 40 times during the debate as he kept interjecting her when she was buttressing a point.
In concluding the debate Trump said, “Hillary has a lot of experience, but it’s bad experience.”
The next presidential debate will hold on October 9, 2016 at the Washington University in St. Louis.
