Trump defends Graham-Cassidy Bill amidst growing criticism

Amidst growing tensions and in a bid to defend his support for the Graham-Cassidy Bill which is a new effort at repealing the ObamaCare health policy, President Trump is validating the essence of the bill and equally testifying to the good intentions of Senator Bill Cassidy at promoting the bill.

  • Justification for the bill

Cassidy is a physician and former member of the American Medical Association, thus affording him credibility to front the bill. The new plan cuts federal funding of the healthcare policy and gives the money directly to the states to afford them more discretion of channeling the funds.

  • The President’s tweet

Trump wrote through a tweet, “Senator (Doctor) Bill Cassidy is a class act who really cares about people and their Health(care), he doesn’t lie-just wants to help people!”

However, despite the qualification of Cassidy, many believe the Graham-Cassidy Bill would take away the health insurance of several millions and is, therefore, a dangerous bill.

  • Jimmy Kimmel berates the bill

Notable among the critics of the Graham-Cassidy Bill is Jimmy Kimmel, an American Television Host and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” who had Cassidy on his show earlier in May. Kimmel argued that the bill is a horrible bill. He was quoted saying, “It was a bad morning for Sen. Cassidy. He and his co-sponsor, Lindsey Graham, spent the morning defending the indefensible”.

Kimmel also claimed the various health associations in the country, namely, American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Hospital Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Lung Association, Arthritis Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the March of Dimes, among many others, all vehemently oppose the bill.

  • VP Mike Pence ramps vote

Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence was in Capitol Hill Wednesday evening to discuss the importance of the bill to gain support from the Congressional GOP members.
