Trump meets Afghanistan counterpart to discuss fight against terrorism

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the US President Donald Trump has met with President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan for bilateral discussions.

The focus of the discussion is the collaborative efforts of the two countries to fight the evil of terrorism that has bedeviled Afghanistan for almost 40 years.

Trump wrote in a tweet, “It was a pleasure to have President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan with us this morning!”

President Trump earlier in August announced the deployment of additional forces to complement the effort of the almost 9,000 American soldiers serving in Afghanistan to eradicate the notorious Taliban forces that have dominated a large portion of the mid-eastern state.

During the discussion, President Trump assured the Afghan President that necessary preparations to facilitate the readiness of the additional forces are in their final phase and that in no time, Afghan will be free from the terror that has defined its existence.

President Ghani, in turn, appreciated the American government for its support of Afghanistan and commended President Trump for his boldness and courage to fight terrorism in the middle east. He assured Trump that, the Afghan government will not take the US government’s magnanimity for a ride but would not rest on its oars to do what is needful on its path to phase out the Taliban forces and devote to nation-building.
