Twitter says Trump won’t get expanded tweets for now

Following Twitter’s review of its tweet characters which will ensure a double in tweet words, the social media company has announced that Donald Trump won’t be part of the group testing the expanded character limit for messages.

A Twitter user had said: “Thank u @biz and @jack ( chief executive Jack Dorsey ) for giving Donald Trump two times more space instead of addressing the mess he was already doing with 140 characters.”

In response to the comment, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said: “He’s not in the test group”.

Some other users dropped their view, critiquing the effect of Trump having more characters to express his thoughts. A user wrote: “Giving Trump 280 characters to play with is practically begging for an international incident”.

Another user commented: “With 280 characters now trump can start a nuclear war and a war with the NFL in one tweet. What a time to be alive.”

The comments were predicated on Trump’s use of twitter as a means to announce latest developments, policy making and largely as a weapon of attack and war of words on critics.

The recent Trump’s tweet that sparked wide criticism and calls for sanctions on Trump’s Twitter page is the weekend’s threat on North Korea. Trump wrote: “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N.. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!”

In a six-tweet response thread, Twitter said one of the factors it takes into account when weighing whether to remove a tweet is the newsworthiness and public interest of the post.
