Trump’s firing of Comey biggest mistake in “modern political history” – Bannon

During an interview on “60 Minutes” which aired on Sunday, Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon launched a controversial statement in which he unusually berated President Trump over one of his actions. Bannon slammed Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, as the biggest mistake in “modern political history.”

When asked during the interview if it was true that he called the Comey firing the “biggest mistake in political history,” Bannon responded, “That probably would be too bombastic, even for me, but maybe modern political history.”

The former chief strategist while reiterating his stance to anchor Charlie Rose was of the opinion that, President Trump would have been shielded from the ongoing investigation into possible Russia meddling in the 2016 election had he not fired Comey.

Bannon said, “I don’t think there’s any doubt that if James Comey had not been fired, we would not have a special counsel.

“We would not have the Mueller investigation, we would not have a Mueller investigation in the breadth that clearly Mr. Mueller is going in,” he reemphasised.

Mr Bannon subsequently added that he doesn’t believe the firing of Comey will pose any shift to the status-quo within the FBI, particularly in its logic as regards investigation.
