Ebuka made his way into social consciousness as a boyish looking contestant in the only Big Brother Nigeria show ever held. His appearance on the show became a springboard to fame for this Okija born lawyer, and he went on to sign endorsement deals with Globacom and Guinness. He graduated in December 2010, from the Washington College of Law of the American University Washington DC, with two Master of Laws degree specializations at the same time, in Intellectual Property as well as Communications Law from the Law and government program.
Ebuka is possibly one of the first Nigerians who registered on Twitter. He shared with us some of his experiences so far.
How did you get on Twitter?
On Christmas day in 2008, I had just finished dinner & was on my laptop, reading an article on cloning. There was a Twitter link at the end of the article. I’d heard about Twitter before then but I knew no one in Nigeria who was on there. I decided to register anyways. For a while it looked like a joke. It gradually grew on me…
Who would you say is your favourite tweep?
First off, I hate that word ‘tweep’. Anyway, most people like to be diplomatic about this question but I know that if I had to pick one person, it would be @akingbayo. It always feels like he’s in my head!
Is there any particular tweet you’ll never forget? Tell us about it.
I once tweeted something about an ex-Nigerian head of State who was running for President at the time. I woke up the next day and my account had been hacked into, password changed and the tweet was gone. I’m still not sure what happened.
Have you had any embarrassing/memorable experience on twitter? If yes, what happened?
Embarrassing? Hardly any. Memorable? Way too many to list…
What are the downsides of being on Twitter?
The fact that it takes up a little too much of my productive time. No lies, it can get very distracting sometimes.
What are the upsides?
Information hasn’t ever been this accessible in human history. It is amazing how some of the biggest stories in the world break on Twitter first. Love it!
Do you follow back readily? Why?
I follow friends or people who I know add value. Besides, I follow over 300 people already. My timeline is a mini madhouse as it is.
What would possibly make you close your Twitter account?
I’m not one to close stuff like this completely. I may move on if the next big thing comes along without having to close up completely. But you never know…
