2 Sallah cow-thieves nabbed for the second year running

Two friends have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nasarawa State on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a cow worth N95, 000.

According to the Deputy Commandant, Operations, Mr. Alexander Barunde, the two suspects ─ Zaidu Daibu (20) and Mohammed Ahmed (19) ─ were arrested on Monday following a tip-off from the cattle market traders at Shinge village, near Lafia.

He said, “One of the suspects, Daibu, was given seven cows to rear. He, however, conspired with Ahmed to sell one of the cows before they were arrested.”

He said an investigation was still on to ascertain if they had other accomplices, adding that the case would be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution as soon as investigation was concluded.

Barunde admonished members of the public to always be on the alert and report any suspicious movement to security agencies. He stated that as the Eid-el-Fitri approached, a lot of criminal elements were on the prowl.

This isn’t the first time the duo would be stealing and selling cows, particularly during Sallah celebration. They had stolen four cows during 2014 Eid-el-Fitri and sold them in Otukpo, Benue State.
