Benedict Odiase, MON, the composer of the current National Anthem, Arise O Compatriots, has reportedly passed away.

Odiase who composed the Nigerian anthem in May 1978 when he was the Director of Music Nigeria Police Band is said to have died last night, June 11.

Odiase retired in 1992 as a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

His family is yet to release an official statement on his demise.
