UPDATE: Why Buhari’s CSO expelled Punch reporter from Aso Rock

by Dolapo Adelana

Details have emerged as to why Bashir Abubakar, the Chief Security Officer to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday expelled Olalekan Adetayo, the State House Correspondent of The Punch from the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Abubakar was said to have summoned Adetayo to his office, questioning him for two reports he considered uncomplimentary of Buhari and his administration.

Abubakar made reference to the stories entitled, “Fresh anxiety in Aso Rock over Buhari’s poor health” and “Seat of power’s event centres going into extinction” as the reason for his decision.

The CSO later asked one of his men to take Adetayo’s statement and revert to him.

Abubakar directed the Officer in Charge, Department of State Services, Victor Nwafor, to withdraw Adetayo’s accreditation tag as he was told to leave the premises after retrieving his personal belongings from the Press Gallery of the Council Chambers.

Nwafor later left an instruction at the Admin Reception that the reporter should no longer be allowed into the premises after which he handed him over to another security operative.
