Juan Mata has revealed that new manager Louis van Gaal, has instructed Manchester United players to communicate in English only.

The midfielder has his fellow countrymen like David De Gea and new boy Ander Herrera in the team, but they are now allowed to speak Spanish.

“We speak in English,” Mata told BBC Sport. “The manager says we have to speak in English.”

United’s record-signing also spoke about the new 3-5-2 tactical system that Van Gaal is aiming to use at Old Trafford. It’s a method that involves wingbacks and the Dutch coach used it extensively at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“The truth is we are trying to play with a new system,” Mata added. “I don’t know how much time it takes – maybe one month or two but the most important thing is to believe in what we do.

“For me personally if I play behind the two strikers it’s a good position. I can look for the ball. I feel comfortable in this role.

“This system can be very dangerous. But you have to communicate and co-ordinate.”
