In Oyo State, Sikiru Adebayo and his wife, Fatimo, were yesterday arraigned before an Oyo Magistrates Court for allegedly neglecting their parenting duty which led to the rape of their 6-year-old daughter.
They were accused of neglecting their duty which led to her rape and for also failing to place her under specific guidance which exposed her to unhygienic environment.
The two accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge.
Sgt. Musa Raji, the police prosecutor, however, maintained that the offense was punishable under Section 16(1) and Section 16(2) of the Child’s Right Law of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Jejelola Ogunbona, reportedly granted the couple bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and subsequently adjourned the case to December 12.
It’s a case of double trouble for the Adebayo couple.
