Last Saturday, several Shiite Muslims were killed as they clashed with the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna.
Several leaders of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria were killed in the attack, as the leader of the group, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, was arrested by the Army.
While public criticism has been largely directed at the army, a video has surfaced showing how the Shiites blocked the road and refused access to the convoy of Major General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff.
Senior military officers and soldiers were seen begging the Shiite Muslims to leave the road for the passage of the convoy of the Army Chief.
However, the Shiites couldn’t seem to be convinced as they attacked the soldiers with sticks and stones.
Perhaps, the Army chief’s convoy should have turned back, to avert the bloodbath that ensued from the episode.
