Wanted Ex-Gov. Shema in negotiations with EFCC

Former Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema who has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged fraud is negotiating with the anti-graft agency through his lawyers, Premium Times reports on Friday.

According to the online news medium, the ex-governor’s spokesperson confirmed that his lawyers are in talks with the EFCC to “cool everything down”.

They also want the anti-graft agency to allow Shema respond to the invitation on a later date.

“His lawyers are negotiating with EFCC officials to cool everything down and allow him come on a new date

“We’re hoping there’ll be a breakthrough between today and tomorrow,” his spokesperson said.

Shema was declared wanted by the EFCC on Wednesday for “criminal conspiracy, inflation of contract, abuse of office, diversion of funds and embezzlement running into billions of naira”.

But Shema in a statement by his spokesperson, had denied the allegation, saying he wrote the EFCC but didn’t get a reply.

He also accused this successor, Bello Masari of sending the EFCC after him.
