Three persons have been arrested by the Taraba Police Command in Nigeria in connection with the murder for allegedly killing the Village Head of Kole in Wukari Council, Abdul Sarkin-Yamma, having being promised 15 cows each as reward for carrying out the murder.
After investigation by the police, the three suspects were arrested on August 1, this was told to newsmen by Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Jibrin Adeniji.
Vanguard reports:
He said two of the suspects, had confessed to committing the offence.
Adeniji, however, said that the suspects said they were hired by a man to kill Sarkin-Yamma.
The police boss said investigation into the matter had been completed and the suspects would be charged to court.
Responding to reporters’ questions, the two suspects who confessed accused their sponsor of mobilising them to commit the crime.
They told the police that the sponsor said he was angry with the village head for allegedly making him pay N200,000 as fine for injuring a cow.
The further confessed that the sponsor promised to give them 15 cows each after successfully carrying out the assignment.
One of the suspects said: “It was our sponsor who gave us the gun to go and kill Sarkin-Yamma.
“I shot at him three times without getting him.
“It was then that my colleague gave him machete cuts until he died after he had fallen into a ditch in an attempt to escape from us.”
Meanwhile, the alleged sponsor, however, denied the allegations saying he had never met the suspects before.
He said the allegation was a frame up by his enemies, expressing optimism that he would be vindicated.
