Woman, 21, remanded in prison for drug trafficking in Lagos

A Federal High Court in Lagos today ordered that a trader, Rashidat Shehu, be remanded in prison custody for being in possession of 800 grams of cannabis.

Shehu, who resides in Abule Ira, Agbara, Ogun State, was taken before the court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

She pleaded guilty to the crime of trafficking in a banned substance.

The 21-year-old trader was arrested by the NDLEA following a tiff off. She was accosted and later found to have concealed the banned substance in a black nylon bag.

According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The case has been adjourned to November 26.
