You Tweet: “I remember tweeting ‘A man without a GOAL is a GOAT'” – Ohimai ‘@MrFixNigeria’ Amaize

Ifreke Inyang [@Ifreke]

Ohimai ‘MrFixNigeria’ Amaize is one of Nigeria’s youngest anti-corruption advocates. He is also is a communications strategist who expresses passionate belief in the use of the media as a tool for social reconstruction. He came into more prominence when he acted as Dele Momodu’s Campaign Manager during the Presidential election in April.

How did you get on twitter?
Everyone was getting on Twitter and as a social media person, I didn’t want to be left out so I joined in. Initially, I didn’t really like the concept of being restricted to 140 characters but eventually, I got used to it and now spend more time on Twitter than on any other social media network.

Who would you say is your favourite tweep?
My favourite tweep is @toluogunlesi. He literally lightens up my timeline with tweets and retweets laced with very witty sense of humour. I call him the master of satire. I always look forward to his tweets and retweets.

Is there any particular tweet you’ll never forget? Tell us about it.
Yes. I remember tweeting a few weeks ago: “A man without a GOAL is a GOAT.” I think I got my most retweets ever for that singular tweet. It was ‘pun-precise’, hilarious and on point.

Have you had any embarrassing/memorable experience on twitter? If yes, what happened?
I hate to remember this, but it was during the just concluded presidential elections. As Campaign Manager to the NCP Presidential Candidate, Bashorun Dele Momodu, via Tweetdeck I always monitored tweets about the campaign and then one day a Twitter war erupted between me and a tweep over the comparison of my candidate to Barack Obama. Before you could say Twitter, my entire TL was flooded with subs, some of which I had to respond to. As this was going on, I had no clue that your peeps at @YNaija were following and preparing a headline story. The next morning, my attention was drawn to a report on – ‘Twitter War! Dele Momodu Against the World’ I was embarrassed.
What are the downsides of being on twitter?
Twitter could be very addictive. I use to have this impression that except you are jobless or really not seriously engaged, you can’t be constantly on Twitter. Twitter is time-consuming, and for poor time-managers, it could have adverse effects.

What are the upsides?
I find Twitter very effective when it comes to reaching out to friends and the rest of the world with information on the go. So far, among the social media networks, Twitter is still the most interesting, interactive and entertaining.

Has twitter gotten you more friends?
Oh yes, I have met very good people on Twitter. I have also met the most irritating set of people on Twitter. But I guess that’s why there’s the ‘Unfollow’ and ‘Block’ buttons. Lol!

How has Twitter helped you in the work you do?
During my Campaign Manager days, Twitter was by far my most effective social media platform for quick information  dissemination. The more followers I have, the more people I can reach. So, Twitter will continue to remain relevant to my work even now that I have more time for my life-time passion for social advocacy.

Many tweeps say you have a controversial persona on twitter, is this true?
I am as controversial as they choose to believe. Yes, I express my views strongly without fear or favour. If that is what it is to be controversial, then I guess I have also become a ‘certified ruffler of feathers’, to borrow @elrufai’s term.

Describe your twitter persona in three words.
I Tweet Sense.

Do you follow back readily? Why?
Most times I follow back on request. Also, I ask for recommendations from my followers. I readily follow people because I don’t consider it a big deal following people on Twitter. If you enjoy being followed, then you should be ready to follow.

What would possibly make you close your twitter account?
I don’t see that happening, at least not now.
