You’re on your own – PDP tells Mimiko

by Isi Esene

Oil and water don’t mix, and so the PDP has denied reports suggesting a working alliance with the Ondo State Labour Party (LP) governor, Olusegun Mimiko, with a view to defeating the ACN which has for long been a political thorn on the governor’s flesh.

The PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Binta Masi Garba, urged its supporters to disregard such reports, and intensify efforts at ensuring victory in the coming gubernatorial election.

She described the report as an attempt to deflate the rising profile and prospects of the PDP and its candidate in the election scheduled for October 20.

Olusola Oke, the former PDP Legal Adviser is the party’s governorship candidate for the election, being the only candidate to register his interest to contest against Mimiko.

Oke said: “The truth is that those spreading the impression that the incumbent governor may want to come to PDP are not in the know. PDP has a candidate. As at today, I am the only candidate of the party. The issue of the PDP working with other parties no longer obtains.”

He pointed out that there is no infrastructure on ground to justify the funds received by Ondo State through several sources, which, according to him, ran into about half a trillion naira.

With this denial by the PDP, it remains to be seen how Mimiko, whom many political observers described as ‘desperate for political marriage’, will take on the ACN army.
