Akpabio, Wike, other PDP governors insist that convention will go on

Despite a court order barring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its national convention billed to hold in Port Harcourt, the party insists that the convention will go on as planned.

According to Vanguard, the chairman of the national convention of and governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, said the party has filed a stay of execution of the court order.

Others PDP members present when Wike made the statement include Governors Okezi Ikpeazu of Abia state, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Dave Umahi, Ebonyi state and the Minority leader of the Senate, Senator Godswil Akpabio.

Wike said: “Assuming though not conceding that there was a court order that there should not be election for the chairmanship position, the man that you said went to court(acting national Chairman of the party) is participating in the election. It tells you he did not file any court process.

“We will do the election and know the next step to take. Since the chairman of the party they said went to court for an order that there should not be election is participating in the election what are we saying. Then when a party takes timeous step , that party cant be said to be disobeying court order. We filed a motion for stay of execution and filed an appeal.”
