We’re sorry: Daily Independent apologises to Charlie Boy over gay and illuminati story

Charles Oputa (popularly known as Charly Boy) has received an apology from Daily Independent, one of the newspapers which reported the story linking him with homosexuality and the illuminati cult.

The editors of the paper apologized in their Friday, June 8 edition, for the “embarrassment” they caused Charly Boy when they published a piece which claimed that he confessed to being gay and the leader of the illuminati society in Nigeria. The story which originated from Danfo Express, was also published in the National Mirror newspaper.

In the said story, Charly Boy reportedly claimed that “he is not ashamed of being gay.”

Despite Charly Boy’s immediate refutation of the Danfo Express via twitter, the story went viral and Charly Boy threatened to take legal action against the papers involved.

In the apology, the editors of the Daily Independent wrote that “A story titled ‘Charly Boy confesses he is gay and head of illuminati’ was published on our website on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The report was from an interview believed to have been granted another magazine. Mr. Charles Oputa, a.k.a Charly Boy, has however denied granting any such interview and denied all the claims therein. We therefore retract the story in its entirety and sincerely apologise for the embarrassment our publication may have caused him.”
