Edo Tracker: New election date clashes with WASSCE exams…

The new dated fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Edo State governorship election has again clashed with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

INEC had postponed the exercise to September 28, following calls by the DSS and Police as well as protests by WASSCE candidates.

The initial date September 10 had clashed with a day when the candidate will write the compulsory Mathematics 1 and 2.

It has been gathered that the new date fixed by INEC clashes with Alternative to Physics, Food and Nutrition as well as Building and Construction examinations day.

The Lagos Head of Public Affairs of the West African Examination Council, Demianus Ojijeogu, confirmed the clash.

According to Ojijeogu, INEC did not consult the council before fixing a new date.

He also confirmed that the examination will still hold on the same day, since the candidates writing the papers are few.

“We were not consulted before the new date was fixed. I do not know why. But candidates will sit for the examination in Edo State because their population is small. Only candidates who missed the first examination would sit for the Alternative to Physics. Both Food and Nutrition and Building and Construction are not general courses.  So, only a few candidates will sit for the papers. It is a workday but the government will declare it work-free,” he said.
