EFCC seals off 3 houses belonging to ex-gov Shema in Katsina

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday sealed off three houses belonging to the former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema who is currently being investigated for alleged fraud.

The anti-graft agency pasted an inscription “EFCC. Under Investigation” on the walls of the buildings.

The three houses are located at Makera Estate, along Daura Road, Barhim Estate and the Government Reserved Area, all in Katsina.

The former governor’s spokesman, Oluwabusola Olawale however said the houses were acquired legitimately, asking the EFCC to be fair in its investigations.

Shema is being investigated by the EFCC for alleged fraud and diversion of funds in the sum of N76bn.

The anti-graft agency had declared him wanted after claiming that he has failed to honour its invitation.

But Shema through his spokesperson had said he was away when the invitation was sent, stating that his lawyers responded to the EFCC for another but were not given any reply.

He also accused his successor, Bello Masari of setting the anti-graft agency after him, while stating his innocence.

Shema later submitted himself to the EFCC days after.
