There are reports that Damaturu, the Yobe State capital is currently under attack by men believed to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect.
This is the send time such attack is taking place after the city came under militant siege early last month. That attack was later repelled by Nigerian troops.
Eyewitnesses say the siege started around 8pm this evening and the number of casualties, if there are, are yet to be confirmed.
Umar Haruna, a civil servant residing in Damaturu told Premium Times that residents of the city are presently living in an atmosphere of fear.
“We are under attack; gun shooting everywhere in Damaturu…we don’t know what to do now,” he said.
A security operative reportedly corroborated the story saying “Yes, there is an attack going on here and I believe the soldiers and the police are containing the attacks.”
Yobe was one of the three states under a state of emergency imposed last year by President Goodluck Jonathan. The other two are Borno and Adamawa.
