3 things that happened as the Nigerian Premier League resumed last weekend

Scoreless draws

There were a lot of 0-0 draws. Enyimba could not make their home advantage count against Akwa United. Giwa FC also failed to take maximum points at home, as they were held by the Abia Warriors. There was also no goals between Sharks and Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt. Even the first of the match of the season at the Liberation Stadium between Dolphins and Kwara United ended goalless.

Early leaders emerge

While most of the teams struggled to find the back of the net, others clubs have begun setting the pace. Wikki Tourists beat Shooting Stars 2-0 at home, with Victor Yakubu scoring the first goal of the new season. FC Taraba claimed a famous 3-2 victory over Rangers, Ifeanyi Uba FC won 2-0 against Warri Wolves and El-Kanemi Warriors managed a narrow 1-0 win over Nasarawa United at home.

No Pillars

The League’s defending champions Kano Pillars, were not in action, following last Thursday’s armed robbery attack. Their match against Heartland has been postponed indefinitely. The club is also asking CAF to move their CAF Champions League first-round first-leg clash with Moghreb Tetouan, which was to be played this Thursday.
