The Nigerian Army has said over 447 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed between April and June while 10 soldiers lost their lives.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru said this on Thursday during a briefing in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Attahiru added that a total of 19, 642 persons abducted by the Boko Haram insurgents were rescued, screened and taken to various Internally Displaced Persons camps.
He said 404 Boko Haram terrorists were killed during the clearance operations between March and June, while 43 others were killed in the ongoing operations.
Ten soldiers were also killed in two of the clashes, while about 15 were injured and recuperating in the military medical facilities.
Attahiru said, “While clearing Boko Haram hideouts in Baranga and Katikima villages, nine terrorists were killed and 17 motorcycles destroyed. Troops also cleared Chukun Gudu, Tumbuma Karami and Tumbuma Baba where 13 others were killed. Troops had another encounter with the insurgents at the Abu Ali Range site in Bama LGA, killing 15 terrorists.
“In the period under review, our troops conducted several clearance operations to rid the hinterlands of fleeing Boko Haram elements, 860 settlements were cleared and 404 Boko Haram insurgents were killed.
“Troops’ location at Magumeri was attacked by the terrorists and we regrettably lost an officer and four soldiers in the attack. Also, troops deployed in Forward Operational Base, Sabon Gari, had an encounter with the terrorists and we lost five of our soldiers. Nine soldiers who were injured in the encounter are still receiving medical attention.
“Troops arrested five Boko Haram suspects, who disguised as Internally Displaced Persons in Dikwa. About 810 terrorists were arrested during the period under review.”
