5 Nigerian collaborative albums we’d love to listen to

In recent time, we’ve been inundated with a ton of hit singles that were collaborations, but just a few collaborative albums have come out of the Nigerian music industry.

Across the pond, there have been many successful collaborative albums, like Jay Z and Kanye’s Watch the Throne and the recent What a time to be alive album by Future and Drake.

But in Nigeria, only Olamide and Phyno are the mainstream artistes who have recently worked together on a record.

In the spirit of Oliver Twist, here are 5 Nigerian collaborative albums we would like to listen to:

Dbanj-Don-Jazzy

  1. Dbanj and Don Jazzy

We have seen the excellent chemistry these two have when they come together to make music.

We have cried and wailed for them to collaborate on a song together, but really we ‘long throat’ for a collaborative album.

2. An original Choc Boyz album by M.I, Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince Zamani, isn’t too much to ask for, is it?

Forget that experimental futile project Chocolate City dropped earlier in the year, we want the original Choc Boyz to please stand up.

We need the two Abagas and Mr Zamani to come together and give us an album or a mixtape for Chrissakes!

3. Simi and Adekunle Gold

We know it’s too soon to want this, but wouldn’t it be cute to have the rumoured lovebirds do a duet album.

It’s been a great year for the pair as former gospel singer, Simi and graphic designer-turned artiste, Adekunle Gold, have proved they can do quality music and still be recognized in a time when commercial music is highly favoured.

4. Local rappers album

If someone had told you few years ago that three of Nigeria’s biggest rappers would be indigenous lyricists, you’d have probably said- hell no.

However, in recent time we have seen Olamide, Reminisce and Phyno take center stage and headline major concerts in the country.

Olamide’s ear for good melody and street narratives with Reminisce’s on-point verses and Phyno’s Igbo ‘sui generis’ flow gives the impression that a joint effort from these artistes would be nothing but exceptional as they have been.

We have seen these three kill it in one of the biggest collaborations this year, Local rappers and we believe they can replicate the feat on a full-length album.

Cynthia-Morgan-1

5. Burna Boy and Cynthia Morgan

We literally have no words to explain what to expect from these two if they attempt a collaborative record.

With Burna’s peculiar sound and lyrical dexterity as well as Cynthia’s edgy delivery, it definitely wouldn’t be a somber record.
