5 things we can expect from Toke Makinwa now that she has ‘become’

November 27 was about one woman and her alone! Toke Makinwa!!

The launch of her book On Becoming held at Wheatbaker and the attendees spanned from media personalities to artistes to Nollywood actors and everyone who matters in the Nigerian media space.

No doubt, it was a successful launch and judging by the conversation excerpts from the book have drawn since they were first shared on the internet last Friday, we know we have a successful book in front of us.

But the big question is…what will be the course of Toke’s life from here? Because frankly, things are not the same anymore. It’s more than the life of an OAP, a talk show host and socialite now, it’s the life of an author.

Here’s five things we expect from her new life as an author:

Book tours and more book tours: Just like her bestie, Arese Ugwu who has taken her Smart Money Woman book to various cities across the country and Ghana, we anticipate a book tour that will take her across Nigeria and way beyond. Unlike Arese who had to build her name around the book, Toke Makinwa is an established brand already. So we trust that promoting On Becoming will not be a struggle. We are ready for an even busier Toke Makinwa.

She might need to tweak the concept of her vlog: For what it’s worth, the book has drawn sympathy from a large group of women who find most of Toke’s revelations about her marital experience totally relatable. Along with her new status as author, Toke has now become a relationship/marriage counsellor of sorts. A lot more than advising ladies to experiment one night stands is expected of her. Toke has shared a story that projects her strength as a woman and other ladies will naturally feel the need to draw strength from her. She better be ready.

On Becoming II: This sequel, we foresee, will be a spin off of the success of this new one. The fans will call for more and Toke being the type to build on her successes will heed the call. What the content of the new book will be? Well, that’s not our problem to deal with but we’re too sure there’s loads more where this came from.

A Maje/Toke lawsuit: Her ex-husband, Maje Ayida has been silent since Toke’s book became a thing (except for his appearance on the ThisDay Style cover). She’s accused him of all sorts in the book, from sex tape to STDs. Here’s a man who stands alone as a brand to reckon with in the fitness world in Nigeria. These accusations are damaging and genuinely bad for business, so we will not rule out the possibility of Maje Ayida suing for defamation. The legal battles authors face!

On Becoming (The Movie): Yes! Toke’s book will get its own movie adaptation. Mo Abudu hosted the Conversations with Toke session at the launch and don’t even tell us she (or anyone) has not teased about making the book into a movie. And since our Nollywood is now on an international level, On Becoming is poised to be a blockburster. Please make it happen, guys!
