6 killed as gunmen open fire in Enugu market

The  Ogwuagor Market, Abakpa Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of the Enugu State, was thrown into a state of panic, when unknown gunmen who too everybody by surprise and  opened fire in the market last Wednesday, killing  about six people and injuring about eight persons.

According to sources, as at the time of filling this report, the main reason why the gunmen carried out the shootings, which had people running for safety is not known.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu stating that only two people have been confirmed dead.

But, our findings revealed that a popular vigilante group in the area organised an election that had continued to generate controversies few days ago.

Amaraizu disclosed that no fewer than four suspects have been arrested by the Operatives of the Enugu state police command in connection with the shooting incident.

He said it was gathered that in the evening of 21/8/13 there was an alleged incident of gunfire at Ogwuagor Abakpa Nike Enugu which led to the death of two persons and leaving five injured.

“The arrested persons are Peter Nwankwo, Udeh Chimezie, Osita Onyia and one chief frank Eze.
