Six of the 2,272 ‘Batch B’ 2013 corps members in Abia will have extended service year after absconding from duty.

This was disclosed by Badmus Adegbenga, the Director of the National Youth Service Corps in the state.

Adegbenga said the decision to extend their service year was based on the policy that those who absconded from service for up to three months repeat the service.

Out of the lot, 15 corps members received the State Government’s Honours Award which attracted a N100,000 cash reward.

It said that seven corps members received the state NYSC Board Chairman’s award, while five others received the State Director’s award.

The passing out ceremonies, which included the traditional parade by corps members and speeches, were cancelled by the Federal Government for security reasons.

The corps members were merely directed to collect their NYSC discharge certificates from their zonal offices in the state.
