#NigeriaDecides: Can the streets of Lagos just look like this everyday?

by Chinwe Okafor

The 2015 presidential elections kicked off today and contrary to popular belief made ‘popular’ as a result of social media, not many people have shown up at their polling units for accreditation or voting.

From observation, it could be seen that most people at certain polling units are mostly the older generation and just about a handful of young people who are indeed the ones crying for a change in the country.

One particular electorate said that his polling unit consisted of just older electorates, no young one in sight. Which is surprising com in form the fact that with the presence of social media, a lot of young people are aware and have in fact been blowing trumpets via mediums of their readiness to vote but are now nowhere to be found now that it is time to take that one step in ensuring they attain the change needed.

Aside the presence of army officials at road blocks and police officers monitoring movements, the streets of lagos are mainly occupied by people playing football on the streets and some loitering or casually trekking to their polling units [and this can be counted].

A citizen report from Onikan says the streets are calm and people are just fooling/joking around.
