A fatal road accident involving medical students of the Abia State University, Uturu, along the Isiala Ngwa end of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway has left one dead.
It was gathered that 12 others sustained varying degrees of injury and were receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
According to reports, the students were returning from the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, where they had gone to collect their academic gowns for induction as medical doctors, scheduled for Thursday (today) when the incident happened.
It was gathered that one of the students, who came to Aba in his bus, had offered a free ride to his colleagues, who were returning to Umuahia after collecting the gowns.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the bus was trying to overtake a trailer on the expressway when the accident occurred, leaving one of the students dead.
The Head, Media and Publicity, ABSU, Acho Elena, who confirmed the incident, described it as sad.
He said, “The victims of the road accident were medical students of the Abia State University.”
