[The Activism Blog] US rates NAPTIP high in combating human trafficking

The effort of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to put an end to human trafficking in Nigeria has been recognised by the U.S.

The Acting Director of Trafficking in Persons Office in Washington, Kari Johnstone gave the commendation during a visit to the Director-General of NAPTIP at the Agency’s Headquarters, Abuja.

He commended the Agency for the 331 conviction it has secured as at September 2017 since its establishment,  He described such feat as laudable bearing in mind the series of technicalities associated with the prosecution of cases such as human trafficking.

If we could recall, the country has recently been downgraded in the trafficking in persons rating from Tier 1 to Tier 2 watch list due to the 2016 Trafficking in Persons Annual Report, which marked it down a report which shows the gains of the effort put in place by NAPTIP and other collaborating agencies at stopping trafficking in persons.
