Niger State Governor Babagida Aliyu on Wednesday wrote to the state House of Assembly of his trip to Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, directing the Speaker of the Assembly, Adamu Usman, to act as the governor instead of his deputy, Ahmed Ibeto.

There has been a deep animosity between the governor and his deputy following the defection of Ibeto to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aliyu had ordered his deputy out of the Council of State meeting last week, alleging that Ibeto called him a thief during one of the APC campaign rallies.

In the letter, GHNS/13/72, dated February 18, 2015 and signed by Aliyu, and addressed to the Speaker, “I wish to inform Mr. Speaker that I intend to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj between 19th and 26th February, 2015. In my absence, the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adamu Usman, will oversee my schedules as the Acting Governor,” he said.
