Amaechi says Jonathan’s rail projects will create 240,000 jobs

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has commended the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for rejuvenating the railway transport system in the country.

Amaechi, who has previously stated that the Muhammadu Buhari administration will not abandon projects from the previous administration, said on Saturday, that the federal government has obtained a loan to continue the rail transport project.

The minister stated this while speaking during a phone-in program on a Port Harcourt-based radio station. He noted that the rail project will create 240,000 jobs around the country.

He stated that: “I told former President Goodluck Jonathan that he has tried on the rail projects and we have promised to conclude them. We have got $20bn loan to do the railway project.”

“The sum of $3.5bn will be released for Lagos-Kano and other side for railway. We are constructing from Calabar to Lagos, we are starting from Calabar to Uyo, Aba, Port Harcourt, Yenegoa to Otueke, to Ughelli, Onitsha, Asaba, Benin to Lagos and this will create 240,000 jobs.”
