Garba Shehu to PDP: ‘Apologise within 72 hours or face lawsuit’

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, has threatened to file a lawsuit against the Peoples Democratic Party for falsely accusing him of illegal trading in foreign exchange.

The presidential spokesman gave the PDP 72 hours to apologise and withdraw the false accusation or be dragged to court.

It would be recalled that the PDP, through their official Twitter handle, had accused Shehu of selling off $800,000 forex in the black market.

Shehu has severally denied being a forex dealer, saying that he would resign from his official position the day he becomes a Forex trader.

Through his lawyers, Cherish Solicitors, Shehu has written to the National Chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, requesting that the party apologise and withdraw the inciting statement.

The letter reads in part: “We shall be left with no option than to have recourse to our client’s rights under the law.”

“We condemn your defamatory and libellous actions in the strongest terms and we state that this is least expected from an organization of your standing which produced past and present crops of leaders, expected to be role model in the country.”
