A gang of armed robbers exchanged gunshots for about 30 minutes with policemen on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge on Thursday, March 12.
It is believed that the robbers had robbed a bank at Lekki phase 1, after which they made an attempt to escape through the link bridge to Ikoyi when they were intercepted by the policemen.
Motorists reportedly abandoned their vehicles on the bridge and fled for their lives while the shooting ensued.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident, the policemen were overwhelmed by the fire power of the robbers and had to flee.
The robbers would eventually escape by making use of a speed boat.
