Arrest of judges: DSS acted within its powers – CCB

The Code of Conduct Bureau on Wednesday said the recent raid on the houses of ‘corrupt’ judges by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) was within the provisions of the National Security Agencies Act, the law which established the DSS.

The CCB said in Abuja during an investigation by the House of Representatives ad hoc committee charged with probing all cases of raids and arrests of persons by the DSS from May 2015 to date.

Chairman of the CCB, Sam Saba told the committee that the bureau has submitted assets declaration documents of the judges to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

He said the action was informed by numerous requests request of the assets forms of many Nigerians prior to the raids.

He explained, “The requests were made in batches, some of them as far back as January, while some were as recent as two weeks ago.”

Saba insisted that the DSS did not go beyond powers vested on it.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara who was represented by the Minority Whip of the House, Mr. Yakubu Barde however said the overlapping functions of security agencies was confusing.
