Asa has teased new music and we feel pure and blessed already

If, like me, you are simply tired of the onslaught of noisy pop songs then you are in luck. Today, and out from nowhere, Asa teased a snippet of an upcoming song on Twitter and with visuals. CAN I JUST SAY THAT I FEEL BLESSED ALREADY? I FEEL PURE. The last time I was this excited was when indie rock band Vampire Weekend released their fourth album Father of the Bride last week, after a six-year hiatus.

Seriously, all I could do was grin like an idiot as I watched the eleven-minute clip. It was so short and yet edifying and wholesome, and also dizzyingly refreshing, and it made me realise how much we have missed Asa’s music. Damn you, shepeteri music.

The clip opens with some piano play, which signals that the song could be a ballad. Asa’s exquisitely hums along while the camera pans to her resting face. She’s in a state of contentment, like when a pop diva in a music video is about to uncurl from inertia and get the song going. You know what I mean. The date at the end of the clip says 14/04, so in four days, a new Asa material will be unleashed. Will it be a single that will herald a new album? I’m not ruling out the chance that Asa might drop an album on us. Every artiste is doing it these days. It’s worth mentioning that Asa belongs to that upper echelon of indie jazz divahood that can drop an album on us at anytime she feels like.

Asa’s last album, 2014’s Bed of Stone, took a deeper exploration of what Asa could offer. I’m excited for whatever she intends to release. Seriously. If even it’s a full five minutes of her humming and saying nothing.
