Attack is senseless and cowardly – Theresa May says in condolence message to Trump

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has offered her condolences to U.S President Donald Trump and the United States of America on the tragic incident that occurred in Las Vegas over Sunday night.

• What happened

A 64-year-old white male, Stephen Paddock shot randomly at attendees of the Route 91 country music festival from his hotel room in the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel adjacent to the festival ground.

In a video shared by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), May described the attack as “senseless and cowardly”.

• Mrs May’s condolence message

Mrs May described the incident as appalling, senseless and a cowardly act.

When asked about the level of her knowledge of the incident, the PM who disclosed she had spoken to President Trump said that investigation is ongoing and assured that the UK through its high commission in the US will assist the Las Vegas authorities and the entire country in every way required.

• Her advice to British nationals

Mrs May also advised every British national within the area to heed the call of the Las Vegas authorities to leave the vicinity. She noted that no British national has been identified yet among the victims.

• Efforts in progress

Meanwhile, Las Vegas authorities have requested for blood donations and have set up a hotline to report missing people for the speedy identification of the dead and wounded. They also opened a “family reunification centre” for people to find loved ones.
