Bandits abduct 40 traders, kill at least 35 in Zamfara

Suspected bandits on Friday attacked four villages in Maradun Local Government of Zamfara State, killing at least 29 people, Daily Trust reports.

It was gathered that the bandits stormed the villages in motorcycles and fired at residents.

It was learnt that seven people were killed at Yan’ kamoji, nine at Sabon Gida, 11 at Tubali and two at Kaya village.

It was also gathered that earlier on Friday, some gunmen abducted 40 traders and killed two policemen in Mai Kansa village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“They killed two mobile policemen and four civilians on board. They abducted about 40 traders, including women and children and dashed into the forest, firing gunshots into the air,” a resident said.

According to witnesses, the gunmen were heard saying the victims will only be released when their herds of cattle seized by the vigilante group were returned.

“We are calling the phone numbers of the abducted traders and the bandits would answer in a very harsh tone. They are threatening to kill the kidnapped residents if their demands are not met,” a resident, Murtala Kurar Mota said.
