Battle of the genders: Why men and women fight

couple-at-odds2

Every relationship will have its fights. Little squabbles are healthy. But when couples start to fight every day over stupid things, it begins to chip away at the relationship until there is nothing left. Everyone has a different way of dealing with arguments and conflict. Some will fight for what they believe in, some walk away, and some will talk about it calmly and rationally. Men and women can be very different when it comes to having a fight.

Women often feel that their partner is not listening to them, or they aren’t understanding the emotions that they are feeling. They bottle emotions until one day they can  it explode. All they are looking for is validation of their feelings. However, most men will just try to placate their angry partner and tell them what they want to hear, instead of speaking the truth, which causes an even deeper rift. Men feel that they aren’t being listened to most of the time and that their input doesn’t matter.

Eventually, if the couple does not learn to communicate what they are feeling and how they would like the issue resolved, multiple issues will fester and eventually can end the relationship. The couple can get into a pattern of how they fight, leaving things unresolved.

When dealing with a fight, communication and compromise are key if you do not want little fights to turn into something that destroys the relationship. Listening is the most important thing you can do in a disagreement or conflict situation. Make sure that your partner understands that you are listening and you are concerned with how they are feeling, then talk it out with them and come up with the best solution for both parties, even if it means having to sacrifice a little pride.
