Be stunned, Be moved, Be-lieve! Ego’s touching new video

by Taiwo Damilola

In recent years we’ve seen Jos recede from being a prime tourist destination in Nigeria, to a state that is the epitome of gloom and death. All over the country we’ve watched as the government and its security agencies turned their backs on the killing of innocent and defenseless children, women and men by religious fanatics. Political thugs have without restraint, turned the once peaceful and people friendly town to a ghost town of sorts – a place where the angel of death seems to have found a place to stay.

In the video directed by Kemi Adetiba, using the depressingly riveting story and images of two journalists who witnessed the crisis (Jenevieve Aken and Godswill Ayemoba), Ego sings of rebirth from the ashes of chaos, about the sun rising after a bad storm, about a future where we can hope to live in peace and security, one where for generations to come there will be growth. Yes, these things have happened and there’s the thought of revenge in the hearts of those who witnessed the sad events but still, Ego hopes it can be channeled to protecting what is right in this single ‘I believe’. Like her, I believe the people of Jos can move on to laughter and joy, I believe there is more to life than the sadness and grief that they shared during those difficult months.

God bless Jos, God bless Nigeria. Watch the video below!
