Boko Haram bomber, Kabiru Sokoto still in prison – Prisons Service

The Nigerian Prisons Service on Tuesday said the mastermind of the 2011 Christmas day bombing in Abuja, Kabiru Dikko is till in prison, contrary to reports that he has been released.

There had been reports going around about his release from prison.

But the prisons spokesperson, Bayo Jeje while speaking to Premium Times confirmed that the convict was still serving his jail term.

“Please disregard the rumour. He’s still in prisons custody,” he said.

“There’s no truth in all” the reports claiming that Mr. Dikko had been released,” he further said.

Dikko also known as Kabiru Sokoto was sentenced to lifeimprisonment in December 2013 after he was found guilty of masterminding the car bombing on St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, near Abuja, which claimed the lives of about 40 persons.

He was arrested on January 1, 2012 but escaped two days later while he was being transported to his residence for a search.

Dikko was later re-arrested in Mutum-Biu in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State in February 2012 and subsequently charged under Section 4(1) (a) of Terrorism and Prevention Act of 2011.
