A gun man claiming to be armed with grenades and kalashnikov has taken two people hostage in Colombes, a surburb of Paris.
Police have surrounded the building – said to be a post office, around seven miles from the centre of the French capital.
A helicopter has been seen flying overhead.
It is, however, not known if the siege is linked to last week’s terror attacks.
Two suspected jihadists were shot dead in a police raid in the eastern Belgian town of Verviers last night night.
We shall bring you more details as soon as we get them.
