The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has been released from Kuje prison in Abuja after spending close to two years in detention, according to online news medium Sahara Reporters.
According to a source in the prison, Kanu left the prison premises few minutes ago after fulfilling his bail conditions.
Recall that Kanu earlier on Friday fulfilled the stringent bail conditions handed to him by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja.

However, his co-defendants in the trial of treasonable felony remain in detention.
Sources added that Kanu’s release was secured following a series of negotiations between a few politicians and activists from his geopolitical zone, the Southeast and members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
A source and close associate of the Buhari adminstration who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Kanu’s release was effected quickly to douse the growing political tension in the southeast due to renewed agitation by pro-Biafra separatists led Mr. Kanu and others.
A prison source said authorities at Kuje prison released Kanu a few minutes ago adding that the paperwork to realise the Biafra agitator’s release was finalised by his lawyers and government officials.
