BREAKING: Super Eagles lose to Algeria, to play Tunisia in losers final

The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for the final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations hosted by Egypt, after a last gasp goal from Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez led the Foxes of Algeria to win the semi final clash between both teams by 2-1 at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.

Mahrez’ cross led to William Troost-Ekong putting the ball into his own net after 40 minutes, before VAR gave Nigeria a penalty from which Odion Ighalo found the equalizer at the 70th minute. But Mahrez scored a superb freekick to hand Les Fennecs a place in the final four minutes into stoppage time amidst wild celebrations from Algerian supporters.

The win meant that Les Fennecs cruised into the final of the AFCON for the second time in their history and the first since 1990.

Gernot Rohr Boys on the other hand, will now struggle for a bronze medal in the competition as they play the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the losers’ final on Wednesday while Senegal, winner of the other semi final clash will square up with the Algerian side, in their first AFCON final since 2002.
