Buhari instigated my trial – Dasuki

Embattled former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, on Friday, informed a High Court sitting in Abuja that President Muhammadu Buhari was behind his unlawful arrest and continued detention without trial since December 29, 2015.

Speaking through his counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), the former NSA alleged that Buhari unjustly instigated his detention despite the fact that bail was granted to him by three different competent courts of law.

In an affidavit filed in this regard, Dasuki claimed that President Buhari revealed his real stance during the Presidential Media Chat he granted late last year.

The presidency had stated that the bail granted to Nnamdi Kanu and Dasuki would not stand as they will abscond.

The ex-NSA, who asked the presiding judge, Peter Affen, to stop further trial until government answers its case of contempt of court, stressing that his continued detention by the DSS has prevented him from having access to his lawyers.

While showing several newspaper clips to support his motion, Dasuki noted that the presidency was yet to deny its earlier statement of not granting bail to him and Nnamdi Kanu.

Dasuki’s lawyer urged the judge to enforce his earlier judgement that had granted bail to Dasuki while stressing that justice was for all.

However, the lead counsel for the federal government, Rotimi Jacobs, in opposing the motion, informed the judge that the case against Dasuki was instituted by the EFCC and not the DSS.

He further stated that the federal government disobeyed the court decision because Dasuki was rearrested after he was released by another government agency.

He also prayed the court to not grant the plea of Dasuki because the DSS that rearrested him isn’t a party to the case before Justice Affen.

The case was adjourned to March 4, 2015.
