Buhari, Osinbajo to take 50% pay cut

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have decided to receive only 50 per cent of the salary approved for them by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

This was announced through a statement released to journalists on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Buhari is supposed to earn an annual remuneration of N14,058,820.00, however, the 50% cut will see him earn N7m per year for the next four years.

The Presidential spokesperson disclosed that Buhari’s decision to take a 50% pay-cut had been passed on to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation through the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Nebolisa Emodi.

In the letter with reference number PRES/81/SGF/17, Emodi was quoted to have written: “I write to forward the completed IPPIS registration form of Mr. President and to draw your kind attention to Mr. President’s directive that only 50% of his salary be paid to him.”
