Buhari sends northern governors to S’East over Biafra agitation

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a delegation of Northern governors to the South-East on peace mission, TheCable reports.

The President had held a meeting with Governors Ganduje, Shettima and Tambuwal on Sunday before leaving for the US.

Why it matters:

The deployment of soldiers to the South-East to quell the agitation for Biafra had heat up the polity. Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra had reportedly been killed and injured by the soldiers who were said to have punished them.

There had also been reports that some IPOB youth were planning to injure northerners in the region.

The South-East governors Forum had proscribed the activities of IPOB, while the army also declared the group a terrorist organisation.

Members of the delegation:

Members of the delegation are Aminu Masari (Katsina), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano).

The governors are led by the chairman of northern governors forum, Kashim Shetimma.
